Russian Specialists Will Continue Studying the Properties of Fukushima Fuel Debris
In June 2019, TENEX JSC together with JSC “SSC RIAR” (RIAR) and JSC “V.G. Khlopin Radium Institute” (KRI) won the tender announced by Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (MRI, Japan) for carrying out further research on the changes in the properties of fuel debris during the ageing process.
This work will follow up on the studies of corium and lava samples from Chernobyl NPP and the manufacturing of model samples of Fukushima Daiich NPP fuel debris, successfully completed in March 2019 by ROSATOM organisations (TENEX JSC, RIAR and KRI) together with the Institute of Geology, Ores, Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Russian Academy of Science.
A comprehensive forecast of the changes in the properties of Fukushima Daiichi NPP fuel debris when ageing during retrieval, transport and storage, is expected to be developed as part of the implementation of the new two-year long project.
ROSATOM organisations possessing a developed research infrastructure and the required expertise regularly participate in implementation of the projects, the results of which are intended for use in the accident recovery works at Fukushima Daiichi NPP.
