“Current Status of Post-Accident Fukushima” – Special Event at ATOMEXPO 2019
On 16 April 2019, within the business program of the 11th International Forum ATOMEXPO 2019, a special event “Current Status of Post-Accident Fukushima” organized by TENEX took place.
Tatsuya Shinkawa, Director General for International Energy and Technology Cooperation, Director General for Nuclear Accident Disaster Response at Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, gave a talk themed “Fukushima 8-years After the Accident: The Current Status of the NPP, Surrounding Areas, and Confidence Building”. Mr. Shinkawa spoke about the current status of the reconstruction activities, putting special emphasis on the Japanese government’s active work to accelerate the reconstruction of the affected locations in the Fukushima coastal area.
Masumi Ishikawa, General Manager at Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (TEPCO) – the operator of the damaged NPP, presented a report named “Fukushima Daiichi Decontamination and Decommissioning: Current Status and Challenges”. In his speech, Mr. Ishikawa noted that the situation at the site had improved significantly creating an environment that enabled TEPCO to proceed with the decommissioning work strategically and in a planned manner. TEPCO pays constant attention to reducing the risks by implementing the decommissioning project with safety, steadiness and swiftness, while facilitating the two-way communication with the population.
